Kansas State Capitol

10th and Jackson
785-296-3966

The Kansas State Capitol is located on a 20-acre tract in downtown Topeka. Its distinctive green copper dome with Ad Astra statue is a prominent feature of the city skyline. Not only is the Kansas State Capitol the seat of our state's government, it is one of the most majestically beautiful buildings you'll tour in the Sunflower State. The Capitol took 37 years to complete and is currently undergoing extensive renovation, but you can already enjoy newly restored rooms and features. During your visit, you'll see:

    - Restored Representative Hall and Senate Chamber
    - Former Supreme Court chamber
    - Governor's ceremonial office
    - John Steuart Curry murals
    - Capitol Store (with Kansas and Capitol treasures)

Ever since the renovation was completed several years ago this is a beautiful place. The huge wood doors that you enter through and the entry way are beautiful. The staff is very friendly and the shop has a lot of fun Kansas made items. I have gone in before just to get gifts for friends from out of state. It's a fun place to learn some Kansas history or enjoy great architecture. I would definitely suggest a visit if you're in the Topeka area.

Can't wait to go back...hopefully when they are in session. We (my mom, my 12 yr old, 15 yr old and myself) all enjoyed visit the State Capital very much. Stayed the entire afternoon and actually had to rush the last 2 floors to get done before they closed. It is a beautiful building!

The State Capital building is awesome. But, they need better signage on how the public can enter. Very confusing. More confusing than any place I have ever been to. It almost comical.

The Capitol is a beautiful building with rich history. The murals are unbelievable. Definitely take a tour with a tour guide if you can and if the dome to the top is open go all the way up, the view is breathtaking. Limestone rock around the visitor's center is a must see to get the experience of the amazing architecture and carpentry that went into the building. Lots of great information here and stop by the gift shop for lots of great finds. The staff is always very nice and accomodating!
