Derby Skate Park

424 East Market

The Derby Skate Park was a grass roots effort by Derby teens. While the popularity of skateboarding has grown, the number of places to ride a skateboard have decreased over the years. Many businesses, churches and schools don't allow skate boards on their property, forcing the teens to find other options.

The park features include stairs, rails, banks, an expansive 4-foot deep bowl along with numerous street skating elements. The park, which opened in September 2006, was designed by California Skate Parks, the same company that designed the City of Wichita's skate park.

The skate park is at the former site of the municipal pool, which closed when Rock River Rapids opened in 2004. Lighting and restrooms were in place, the City owned the land and there was ample parking.

The Derby Skate Park is a pokestop for Pokemon Go. That's the only reason I stopped by. Seemed to be pretty vacant when I was there, just a few kids who weren't even skating. It appeared cleaned and well maintained.
